Anthony Joshua rematch with Usyk. Alex Krassyuk, Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter, has stated that Anthony Joshua has invoked a rematch clause and that a rematch will “certainly happen.”
On Saturday, the 34-year-old dethroned Joshua as heavyweight champion in spectacular fashion.
Usyk won the WBO, WBA, IBF, and IBO championships from his British opponent in the process.
It has now been revealed that AJ and Usyk’s pre-fight deal includes a rematch provision.
After the fight, Joshua was overheard stating to Usyk in the locker room, “see you soon,” and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has stated that the two fighters will face again in early 2022.
“According to my understanding, he has already invoked the rematch clause since the first thing he said when he arrived to our corner was ‘we will meet again in the rematch,’” Krassyuk told Boxing Social.
“So he didn’t even consider it as an option; he’d already made up his mind.
“I heard during the press conference that Eddie Hearn and AJ were talking the rematch, not only as a fact, but as a time when it would happen, and what AJ has to alter to win, therefore I believe it will happen.
“Only extreme conditions will prevent it, but it will undoubtedly occur.”
If Usyk defeats Joshua once again, he will be vying for the WBC title, which is presently held by Tyson Fury, who will face Deontay Wilder for the third time on October 9.
